About The Student_Zone

Integrated within the site and program schedule, URBANI_T will feature the Student_Zone, co-produced with partner universities OCAD University’s Faculty of Design and Ryerson University’s School of Fashion in the Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD), as well as support from The Suzanne Rogers Fashion Institute (SRFI).

Along with the events below, Fashion Circuits will turn the entire Nathan Phillips Square as a runway to showcase the designs of Ryerson School of Fashion, The Susan Rogers Institution of Fashion, and OCAD University students and recent graduates!

WORKSHOPS

JUNE 27TH

CELEBRATING SNEAKER ART & A VIBE MUSIC CREATION

1PM to 3PM: You’ll get to put designs on paper sneakers! A Sneaker Challenge will take place with students from OCAD University.

2PM to 3PM: Streetwear/Skater Wear Fashion Presentation with Leanne Samaroo, an artist studying Fashion Design at Ryerson University. Her brand puts an emphasis on vintage styling featuring streetwear influences with classic silhouettes, upcycled fabrics and unique detailing.

5PM to 7PM: A Music Creation Experience hosted by the LOUD.army. You’ll be taken on a beat making journey lead by one of LOUD's top sound producers. Come learn the basics of music production and together we’ll explore the power music has to foster community!

JUNE 28TH

ILLUSTRATING THE CITY & A VIBE MUSIC LISTENING PARTY

1PM to 3PM: Led by Indigenous illustrators Kaiatanoron Dumoulin and Laura Amant, this illustration workshop will let you channel your creativity to create new visions of the city. 

5PM to 6PM: Dori Tunstall conducts an interview with illustrator, Gary Taxali.

6PM to 7PM: Olivia Anna Mazzone will showcase her luxury evening wear, which focuses its inspiration on the power struggle of women throughout the course of history. Zehna Odwar is influenced by her east African heritage and creates designs focus on presenting selfexpression through acceptance of cultural colonization and the emerging creativity despite it.

7PM to 9PM: Come listen to the music that was created during the Music Creation Session hosted by the LOUD.army. You’ll be taken on a musical journey lead by one of LOUD’s top DJ’s.

JUNE 29TH

SUSTAINABILITY, REUSE AND FASHION

1PM to 3PM: Led by Ryerson's School of Fashion and Sarah Jay in partnership with Value Village, this workshop is centered around sustainable fashion and reuse. 

4PM to 5PM: Non-Binary Fashion with Charlotte Carbone a fashion designer with a passion for human centred design.

SKATEPARK

JUNE 28TH & 29TH: Come see live skate demos!

A free skatepark will be available for you on site, come and try do show your tricks! Free demos will take place during the festival, stay tuned for the dates and details!

JUNE 27TH

CELEBRATING SNEAKER ART

12PM to 1PM : Moderated by Dori Tunstall - Dean of Design at OCAD University, with Janine Kwok - a freelance illustrator based in Toronto and Natalie Mark, a designer and storyteller from the prairies.

4PM to 5PM: Dori Tunstall continues the discussion on Skater Culture with Immony Men,and local skaters

JUNE 28TH

ILLUSTRATING THE CITY

12PM to 1PM: Dori Tunstall will speak with Indigenous illustrators Kaiatanoron Dumoulin and Laura Amant on Indigenous ways of visualizing the T'karonto.

5:30PM to 6:30PM: World-famous illustrator Gary Taxali will discuss with Dori Tunstall on how he envisions the city.

JUNE 29TH

SUSTAINABILITY, REUSE AND FASHION

12PM to 1PM: Caron Phinney, Ryerson will interview Caron Phinney, a graduate of the Fashion Design program, who challenges and encourages the next generation to design with an understanding of where we have been and create to the possibilities of where we can go.

4PM to 5PM: Moderated by Dori with Sarah Jay and Myriam Laroche from Value Village on sustainability and reuse.
